Foundations of Traditional Tapestry (Intro)

In this 5-week course, students will learn the essential skills that tapestry weavers have been using for thousands of years to create beautiful textile artwork. This class will focus on the "pick and pick" style of tapestry weaving, using multiple strands of yarn to create enticing colours that give depth and dimension to woven work.

No experience required, all materials provided.

Intro to Woven Fibre Art

Students will build a basic understanding of contemporary woven fibre art skills in this 3 hr workshop. You will learn how to tabby weave, colour blend, and create three-dimensional textures.

Students will leave with a postcard-sized tapestry. No experience required, all materials are provided.

Since the inventions of the Bauhaus weavers of the 1950s, tapestry has transformed in many ways. A new era of abstract, highly textured woven artwork has emerged and continues to evolve. In this 5-week course, students will learn essential techniques of contemporary forms of woven fibre art to create exciting artwork with 3-dimensional elements.

Circular Weaving

In this fun, easy 3hr workshop, students will learn how to “weave in the round” on a circular hoop. This class is a great way to learn some of the essential techniques of tapestry weaving and take home a fun, attractive project.

Tapestry Weaving Level II: Focus on Shapes

Over the course of 5 weeks, students will master the art of creating clear, elegant shapes in woven artwork. This intensive will give students time to practice weaving essential shapes, with a focus on rectangles, circles, and triangles as the building blocks of most other shapes.

Students must have prior tapestry experience, including how to warp a loom and tabby weave. You are welcome to bring your own loom or use a provided loom. Students will have the option of paying a loom rental fee if they wish to take their projects home between classes.
